Mt.Takasauyama stands as if laying on the Itoshima Plane called a treasure house of Yayoi period.
Kibino Makibi,a noted scholar of Nara period, built Ito Fortress on Mt.Takasuyama with the height of 415m.
Kibino Makibi went for study to Chinese dynasty Tang in 755.
Around those times, the Disturbance of Anrokuzan to Emperor Gensou happened in the Tang dynasty and the Sila dynasty in Korean Peninsula showed a sign of invation to Japan.
So,the Japan Court ordered to construct the Ito Fortress in 756 and it was completed in 768.
Five watchtowers were placed on the ridges of the Mt.Takasuyama. The slope facing with the west plane was solidified by earth and rock fort. Among the forts, there were gates of fortress and water gates.
In Chikushi plane,Ito Fortress was the ancient fortress built in Chikushi province after the Oono and Kii Fortress for the defense against foreign enemies.
The monument of Ito Fortress is located on the small hill 2 minute walk from the Takasu bus stop of Shouwa Bus Line.
